Music is what feelings sound like!

I believe that music wires the brain in a special way, shaping children who have been exposed to music education into sophisticated, successful and happier adults. With the right approach – no matter who the kids become in the future – they will always enjoy playing the piano and have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the arts in general.

I have been teaching for over 35 years, 27 of which at CMA. I teach classical, jazz, and contemporary music to all age groups – no one is too old to learn! Every year, my students win local, U.S. and international competitions. Many perform at Carnegie Hall, and many continue their music education in colleges and music academies.

I developed my love for piano early, while attending the School for Musically Gifted Children in my home city of Yerevan in Armenia, and continued my education at the State Academy of Music and Aesthetic Education, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Music Education. I was taught in European classical tradition by Amalia Bayburtyan, Associate Professor of the State Conservatory (herself a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, a world-renowned pianist and educator.) Prior to moving to the United states, I began my teaching career and regularly performed at the Armenian State Philharmonic as an accompanist.

Perhaps most important of all, I love what I do and the students I teach, and continue to develop lasting relationships with my students and their families. One of my greatest joys is when a former student returns to join in a recital with my current ones, creating a continuum between the past and the future!
